Certainly Potawatomi wasn't the only catalyst in the valley rebirth but it was an early symbol of investment in the valley and it got lots of people coming to what had mostly been a dead zone. The big redevelopment plan the state was pushing for the largely-abandoned valley was a huge prison toward the western portion. Potawatomi opened way back in 1991 at a time when the valley was pretty much a contaminated wasteland.
